OUR FRAGILE EDGE
Verse 5 of the Art of Navy poem written by Andy Singh
Even today the rumble of distant guns continues,
But now another cry for help is heard.
As battles of famine, flood and cyclone quake our neighbours.
Once again supplies are loaded, ships are dispatched and helicopters launched.
Somewhere in a field in Indonesia, nine Australians pay the ultimate sacrifice.
They are not forgotten, not diminished, our sorrow no less than with the Sydney, Canberra or Perth.
Power is not just what can be destroyed, but also what can be saved.
