The colours originate from a vessel, but movement has transformed them into something entirely different — elongated figures, ribbons of blue, white and gold, and shapes that appear to dance across the surface.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFor some time, I couldn't find the right title.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI saw dancing figures in the reflection and found myself thinking about the great theatrical follies and the choreography of Busby Berkeley, where individual figures become part of a larger, constantly moving pattern.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThen I encountered Wassily Kandinsky's \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003eImprovisations\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eKandinsky used the idea of musical improvisation to explore a world in which colour, line, rhythm and form could be liberated from literal representation. Looking at these works, I recognised something familiar: not a similarity I had consciously sought, but the same sense of movement and spontaneity I had discovered independently on the water.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSuddenly, I understood my own image.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003eKandinsky’s Follies\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e is also about improvisation in the way I make art. I don't construct or pre-plan these images.
