I spend time simply
staring at those layers and allowing the work to reveal itself.

With Nature’s Infrastructure, my eye went first to the
beautiful resonant blue. It seemed to hold the artwork together
against a forest of deep green, across which fragments of light
            glistened.

Then the remaining layers of gold and earth began to emerge.
The longer I looked, the more they suggested roads, beaches,
tracks and coastlines—the infrastructure of some hidden world
            viewed almost from above.

And then there are the shapes moving across the surface.

At times they remind me of carved forms from the Tiwi Islands,
seemingly floating across the water. That is a visual association
rather than a literal cultural reference, but it adds another
layer to what I imagine I am seeing. The shapes seem to possess
movement and purpose, almost like messengers travelling across
the surface carrying something we cannot quite decipher.

That is where the title Nature’s Infrastructure came from.

There appear to be networks everywhere within the work: pathways
of colour, movement, light, land and water. For a brief moment,
the surface has created its own architecture—a hidden world that
exists only until the water shifts and constructs another.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1041/0203/5537/files/Nature_s_Infrastructure_-_New_Releases_v2.jpg?v=1787194222
