"I journeyed through the desert not to cross sand, but to uncover the self."
— Ralph Kerle, inspired by the spirit of Al-Mutanabbi
The Story
Desert Movement 4 is the newest addition to the Gold in the Desert Collection, created from a decade-long journey capturing Dubai’s waterways as mirrors of its cultural soul. Photographed in the Dubai Marina, this abstract composition transforms architectural reflections into flowing ribbons of gold, cream, and teal.
In my practice, water is more than a surface—it is a storyteller, holding memory and revealing the hidden undercurrents of a culture. Inspired by the psychogeographic ideas of Guy Debord, the work explores how geography shapes emotional and cultural perception, turning the city into a living theatre of history, ambition, and transformation.
Desert Movement 4 invites the viewer to look beyond the visible and into the reflective space where desert and sea meet in a quiet, unending dialogue.
