“Art and science both seek to understand complexity — one through emotion and perception, the other through analysis and explanation.” — Dr. Eric Kandel
The Story
Metallic Witness is one of those rare works that arrives with a presence — an image that seems to look back as much as it is looked at.
Born from the ever-shifting interplay of light, reflection, and urban water surfaces, this piece reveals something unexpected: the quiet suggestion of a metallic being suspended in the void. A figure made not by brush or hand, but by the improbable choreography of nature and perception.
The work’s title emerged from a collaborative naming experiment with my Art Journal community. When Melbourne collector Shane Smedley turned the image 180 degrees, he encountered what he described as a “silent observer in space — a being of cold metal witnessing the scream of the void.” His insight captured a tension I had sensed but not yet articulated: the meeting of the mechanical and the organic, the seen and the imagined.
This is the uniqueness of Metallic Witness: it is an abstract photograph that behaves like a living presence, shifting meaning depending on the eye — and the psyche — of the beholder.
About the Urban Reflections Collection
Urban Reflections captures the unexpected poetry found in the built environment — moments where glass, metal, shadow and movement distort the city into something abstract, contemplative and beautifully unfamiliar. These works transform architecture into living geometry, revealing the emotional undercurrents of modern life through colour, pattern and reflection.
Each piece invites the viewer to slow down, look deeper, and discover the hidden rhythms within the structures that shape our world.
