Sandstone Drift
“We have a water problem, not a fire problem… We’ve got to start taking care of our rivers, our creeks and billabongs, our lakes and our oceans." — Dr Anthony McKnight (Awabakal / Gumaroi / Yuin educator)
Limited edition 1 of 10
110 × 100cm
The Story
Sandstone Drift was born from a dawn paddle across Middle Harbour. At f/8 the lens stilled the harbour’s surface just long enough to let Sydney’s golden sandstone liquefy into flowing bands of light. In that molten moment I felt I was seeing through two sets of eyes—my own behind the camera, and those of Gadigal ancestors who once read these mirrored cliffs for signs of season and sustenance. This print freezes that dialogue of rock, water and memory in a single, abstract breath.
Part of the Sand Talk Collection
The Sand Talk series is a collection of artworks that reflect a deep connection to the earth and nature, offering an imaginative journey into the wisdom and spiritual relationship that the Indigenous peoples of Sydney, Australia, have with their land.
