The Water Knows
85 × 170 cm
Edition 1/5
"We were placed in a sacred manner on this earth, each in our own sacred and traditional lands and territories to care for all of creation...." Australian Aboriginal Elder
The Story
In this reflection of ancient Sydney sandstone, I glimpsed the contours of a mythic desert—shapes that echoed the sand paintings of Australia’s Central Desert. This mysterious resemblance stirred something deep, and I invite you to read the blog behind ‘The Water Knows’ to discover what it might mean.

Sand Talk Collection
My aim with the Sand Talk series is to create a collection of artworks of reflections that when captured offer me imaginary access to the indigenous peoples of Middle Harbour, Sydney, Australia, the Camaraigal people where I spend most of my time kayaking. The Camaraigal peoples are considered one of the first indigenous tribes to engage with Governor Phillip, the first Governor of the Colony of New South Wales. I am hoping to recreate a visual sense of the world in which our First Nations people existed and prospered.
