Water Map 1
“I think about the country where I was walking and camping, all the main water holes, all the camping areas… and I follow them up with my painting.”
— Freddie Timms, East Kimberley artist
Signed Limited Edition 1 of 5
110 × 180
Giclee Museum Quality Archival Print on Hahnemeuhle German Etching Rag 310 or Fine art Canvas 430gsm
Water Map 1 is a new work from Ralph Kerle’s Offshore Aerial Collection and Sand Talk Collection.
At first glance, the image appears luminous and almost golden, alive with movement, reflection and light. Yet the longer one looks, the more the water begins to behave like land. The surface opens into something resembling an aerial map: sandbanks, waterholes, pathways, borders and remembered terrain.
The work began as a photograph of reflected light on water, but its final form suggests something more expansive. It sits between abstraction and landscape, between surface and depth, between looking down into water and seeing from above.
Water Map 1 also carries an unexpected echo of East Kimberley painting: not through imitation, but through spaciousness, restraint, and the way the central form sits within a surrounding field. The work invites the viewer to consider how water can become image, how reflection can become memory, and how abstraction can suggest place.
Printed as a museum-quality Giclée on archival paper or canvas, Water Map 1 is a substantial statement work suited to a living room, dining room, entry space or contemporary interior where colour, scale and atmosphere are central.
