"I use colors that have already been experienced through the light of day and through the state of mind of the total man. In other words, my colors are not colors that are laboratory tools which are isolated from all accidentals or impurities so that they have a specified identity or purity. " – Rothko

The Story

This artwork is a photograph of a reflection of the surface of the water created by elements of a motor launch. The artwork is inspired by abstract expressionism in particular, US artist, Mark Rothko who was considered one the founders of the Colour Field Painting school, a specific school within abstract expressionism.

About the Costal & Ocean Collection

The Costal & Ocean Collection explores the natural world as a source of abstraction in art. I propose that abstract painting is not merely an act of unconscious imagination by an artist but rather the result of subconscious observations grounded in reality. These works are a visual expression of how the mind perceives and interprets the world. Using a modern tool—the digital camera—I have captured the unconscious abstractions found in nature. These images invite viewers to engage their own perceptions, contemplating what these organic forms and patterns represent.
