Join us for a fascinating exploration into the world of perception and sight. Have you ever wondered how our brains interpret the world around us? Or why we see things differently from one another?

Dr. Con Petsoglou, Ophthalmologist, Sydney Eye Hospital; Senior Lecturer, University of Sydney and Director of the NSW Medical Tissue Bank, and Ralph Kerle, a renowned Australian photographer and kayaker, delve into the complexities of perception and sight, shedding light on how we make sense of the world. Whether you're a psychology enthusiast or simply curious about the way we see things, this event is sure to be an eye-opening experience.

The evening will feature the world premiere screening of a short film entitled "Ralph's Eye," shot around Middle Harbour. The film is intended to serve as inspiration for anyone facing a disability, showing how challenges can be transformed into unique creative expressions.

Ralph Kerle opens exclusive gallery in Double Bay, and announces partnership with Sydney Eye Hospital Foundation

GALLERY IS NOW CLOSED. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION AND TO VIEW WORK GO TO CONTACT ME

Internationally renowned artist Ralph Kerle is delighted to announce the opening of his very own gallery in Double Bay, just in time for a warm Sydney summer. That’s not all the exciting news. He will also be launching fundraising initiatives with Sydney Eye Hospital Foundation.

Ralph is a Sydney based photographic artist. His artworks are nothing short of captivating and hypnotic, as colours and other-worldly shapes seem to develop before our eyes. Using a digital camera, he captures subtle details of reflections on water, as he kayaks through Sydney Harbour and more recently the waterways in the USA, the UAE and Portugal.

In the mid 1980s, Ralph was diagnosed with keratoconus; the slow deterioration of muscles in the cornea (the surface of the eye). Subsequently a corneal transplant saved the sight in his right eye whilst his left eye is still deteriorating. As a result, Ralph’s rare condition allows him to see the world uniquely. Objects come with a haloed effect, resulting in some distortion. His brain has translated this visual disability into the abstraction, movement and colour dominant in his artwork.

His artworks give viewers the opportunity to do the same; unlocking our creative intellect as we wade through the detailed imagery. The abstract reflections of objects on the water as they flick, twist and convolge ask the question – how do we see?

Since its founding in 1981, Sydney Eye Hospital Foundation has allocated over $19 million, thanks to community support. In 2019, $1.2 million was donated to the specialist eye hospital providing state-of-the-art equipment, funding for educational development of nurses and specialists and innovative research.

This support, dedication and perseverance is what makes Sydney Eye Hospital world class. Ralph’s gratitude for the extraordinary care and service he has received over the years from the doctors, specialists and the nursing staff leads to his fundraising support of the Sydney Eye Hospital Foundation.

December’s gallery opening event will be the first of many initiatives he will engage in with the purpose of raising awareness for the Foundation and its support.

Special guest’s CEO Sydney Eye Hospital Foundation, Linda Fagan and specialist eye surgeon Dr Con Petsoglou will join us for an exclusive talk about how our vision and its driver, the brain, affects one’s creativity.

This must-see event will be held at the Ralph Kerle Gallery, Cosmopolitan Centre 22 Knox St, Double Bay, Sydney December 10 6 – 8.00pm.

RSVP is essential to ensure Covid 19 Business Plan regulations are strictly observed.

_______________________________________________________________________________

2019 has proved to be a genuinely ground breaking year for my work. Even better, we have not had to move and are still open every day at the Intercontinental Hotel!

Two new series of works have been created - one in Aveiro, Portugal and one in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Whilst the new works are still water based reflections, a breakthrough in content and colour can be observed because of the geography of the landscape and the light in these new environments. I'm excited and keen to share these new works for the first time publicly.

To add further impetus to 2019, I have  been offered two major international exhibition opportunities that will be announced at this May event with a special guest appearance by one of the curators.

To celebrate these new developments, we would like to invite you for drinks on Friday May 31 February at 6.00pm.

RSVP to this event is required.

Really hope you can join me
