“You have no idea how hard I've looked for a gift to bring You. Nothing seemed right. What's the point of bringing gold to the gold mine, or water to the ocean. Everything I came up with was like taking spices to the Orient. It's no good giving my heart and my soul because you already have these. So I've brought you a mirror. Look at yourself and remember me.” Rumi, Persian Poet.

The Story

"Gold Leaf on Water" marks one of my early explorations into how water reflections can reveal the essence of a culture. This photograph, taken at the Dubai Marina, captures a shimmering reflection of a building’s façade on the water’s surface. The golden hues mirrored in the ripples evoke a sense of elegance, paying homage to the intricate beauty of Arabic calligraphy, where gold is often a symbol of opulence and tradition. As I observed the abstract patterns formed by the water’s movement, I recognized the subtle impression of calligraphic shapes, reflecting the cultural and architectural richness surrounding the marina.

Paintings on Water Collection

The Paintings on Water series explores the natural world as a source of abstraction in art. I propose that abstract painting is not merely an act of unconscious imagination by an artist but rather the result of subconscious observations grounded in reality. These works are a visual expression of how the mind perceives and interprets the world. Using a modern tool—the digital camera—I have captured the unconscious abstractions found in nature. These images invite viewers to engage their own perceptions, contemplating what these organic forms and patterns represent.
