“The land is not a resource to be used. It is a mirror of ourselves, the reflection of who we are and who we can be..” – Tyson Yunkaporta, Australian Aboriginal writer, author, ‘Sand Talk’.

The Story

Invisible Eyes is a deeply personal work, rooted in my connection to the land, water, and my search for identity as an Australian. Through this Aboriginal perspective, the artwork reflects how I see the world—through "Indigenous eyes" that honor the spiritual bond between the earth and water, and the stories embedded in the Australian landscape.

The eyes in the land and water are symbolic of an ongoing dialogue with my European ancestral roots in Australia and my evolving sense of self. As the water distorts the reflection of the sandstone of Middle Harbour, Sydney, my perception of identity shifts, mirroring the complex journey of understanding who I am as an Australian. Invisible Eyes captures that internal conversation, continually challenging me to explore my cultural identity and connection to this land.

About the Aerial & Earth Collection

Aerial & Earth explores the earth from perspectives that reveal its grandeur, structure and delicate complexity. Whether viewed from above or experienced at ground level, these works highlight the natural patterns, colours and forms that shape our world. The collection invites a sense of scale and stillness, offering vistas that are both grounding and expansive — an intimate dialogue between land, light and distance.
