“The land is not a resource to be used. It is a mirror of ourselves, the reflection of who we are and who we can be..” – Tyson Yunkaporta, Australian Aboriginal writer, author, ‘Sand Talk’.

The Story

Invisible Eyes is a deeply personal work, rooted in my connection to the land, water, and my search for identity as an Australian. Through this Aboriginal perspective, the artwork reflects how I see the world—through "Indigenous eyes" that honor the spiritual bond between the earth and water, and the stories embedded in the Australian landscape.

The eyes in the land and water are symbolic of an ongoing dialogue with my European ancestral roots in Australia and my evolving sense of self. As the water distorts the reflection of the sandstone of Middle Harbour, Sydney, my perception of identity shifts, mirroring the complex journey of understanding who I am as an Australian. Invisible Eyes captures that internal conversation, continually challenging me to explore my cultural identity and connection to this land.

Part of the Sand Talk Collection

The Sand Talk series is a collection of artworks that reflect a deep connection to the earth and nature, offering an imaginative journey into the wisdom and spiritual relationship that the Indigenous peoples of Sydney, Australia, have with their land.
