Pollock's Desert Ebru 2

$3,300.00

90 × 140 cm

Edition 2/5

The Story

The artwork is a photograph of a reflection off the surface of the water of a dhow moored on the wharves of the Deira River, Dubai. The artwork takes its influence from the Central Asian and Middle East art practice of Ebru painting. Ebru painting is a distinctive genre of aqueous art used to produce mesmerizing works. From a Western perspective, the artwork suggests the style of the abstract expressionist, Jackson Pollock. Particularly popular in Turkey and Central Asia, Ebru paintings are produced using dyes, a water-based solution, and a set of unique tools. Like printmaking, Ebru works of art are created by transferring designs, patterns, and motifs onto sheets of paper, fabric, and other canvases.

Paintings on Water Collection

The Paintings on Water series explores the natural world as a source of abstraction in art. I propose that abstract painting is not merely an act of unconscious imagination by an artist but rather the result of subconscious observations grounded in reality. These works are a visual expression of how the mind perceives and interprets the world. Using a modern tool—the digital camera—I have captured the unconscious abstractions found in nature. These images invite viewers to engage their own perceptions, contemplating what these organic forms and patterns represent.
