This work carries something of Maxfield Parrish’s luminous colour world, reappearing here through the instability of water, reflection and light.

The Story

In Sea Parrish, I was struck by the way colour itself seemed to take over the image.

The luminous blue field and the drifting red forms called to mind, for me, something of Maxfield Parrish’s extraordinary colour world — not in any literal sense, but in the heightened atmosphere of the image and its almost dreamlike intensity. What interests me is that this effect does not come from paint. It emerges through water, reflection, movement and light.

The abstraction in this work was discovered, not invented. It appeared briefly on the surface of the water, where reflected forms dissolved into a language of colour, line and instability. My role was to recognise it when it arrived and to isolate that fleeting visual event.

As with much of my practice, the camera becomes more than a recording device. It becomes a contemporary perceptual tool, allowing me to find moments where the visible world slips unexpectedly into abstraction. The result is an image that feels poised somewhere between photography and painting, between observation and imagination.

For me, Sea Parrish is a work about the emotional force of colour and the way reality, under certain conditions, can momentarily resemble art history.

About the Urban Reflections Collection

Urban Reflections captures the unexpected poetry found in the built environment — moments where glass, metal, shadow and movement distort the city into something abstract, contemplative and beautifully unfamiliar. These works transform architecture into living geometry, revealing the emotional undercurrents of modern life through colour, pattern and reflection. Each piece invites the viewer to slow down, look deeper, and discover the hidden rhythms within the structures that shape our world.
